Just Finished A Kitchen Renovation? Here’s How To Make It Last

You’ve got a brand new, aesthetically appealing, and super functional kitchen to make use of – how exciting! The work is all over and done with, you’re fully paid up on the new appliances and the painters you hired, and you’re ready to get to work in your new kitchen space.

But now that you’ve got a new kitchen to enjoy, let’s make sure it lasts as long as possible! Kitchen renovations are one of the most expensive home improvement projects to get through, and it’s important to squeeze as much value out of them as you can.

As such, keep the tips below in mind now that your kitchen has had a makeover and needs an extra bit of tender loving care!

Make Sure it’s Easy to Move Around

Kitchens need to be traffic-free zones. ‘Too many cooks’ isn’t just a saying you can apply metaphorically!

When there’s such little free space in the kitchen that it’s hard to move around when more than one person is using it, you’re never going to feel like you’ve got a properly functioning space. And if that’s an issue, what was all that renovation work for?!

Keep things off the floor, make sure any islands, tables, or chairs don’t jut out too far (and also stay in the exact same space), and always find a new home for things you have to squeeze around.

Keep Your Appliances Clean, Inside and Out

New kitchen appliances mean more chopping, cooking and cleaning power! However, these new appliances need to be much better looked after than your previous ones. If the toaster never got its crumb tray taken out and emptied more than once a year, that’s a habit that’ll need to change!

Because preventive maintenance is the best method for keeping ovens, washing machines, air fryers, and dishwashers in the best condition. And while you may still need to call in an appliance repair expert every now and then, you know you’ve done everything you can to prevent the repair bills from mounting up.

Watch How You Use Your Surfaces

Even the most durable, hard-wearing marble countertop can be damaged by what’s used on top of it.

Heavy fryers and grills pushed back and forth, knives scraped over, and heavy shopping bags that get thunked down before being put away. Repairing this kind of damage might seem like a trivial thing, but it can be incredibly expensive.

Always keep an eye on the condition of the counter tops, keep them clean, and never let sharp utensils (or appliances) be used without a protective layer in between. If chopping boards have to live on the counter and not get put away, so be it!

Got a kitchen renovation all done and dusted? Don’t let all that work go to waste. Look after your counters and appliances, and make sure you’ve got enough room to move. If you’re carrying a hot dish, you don’t want to be bumping into anything – or indeed, anyone!
