Ultimate Guide to Fall Fashion for Wedding Guest

There are two things I love. Well, actually, there’s abundantly more than two but for the sake of this post we will go with two. 🙂 I absolutely love weddings… there’s something that gets me … Every. Single. Time. I see the bride come thru the doors to meet her groom. Pair a beautiful wedding with autumn and you have the makings of a spectacularly beautiful event. I just so happen to have a niece who has decided to have an October wedding… (insert a squeal of exuberant excitement right here!). Will you join me as I explore fall fashion for wedding guest?

Understanding Autumn Wedding Dress Codes

When we usher in the fall season – we say goodbye to the bright summer hues and welcome the jewel tones that autumn brings with it! Throw in some unique sleeves and flattering necklines for fall fashion for wedding guest that will rival the bride!

Before choosing your color look to the invitation for clues. Some brides may include a color suggestion card in with the invitation (LOVE this idea!). If there’s no suggested colors, match the theme of the invitation – obviously the bride loves the color if she used it to send to everyone she loves.

The next clue is the location and time of day. Is it an evening ceremony and inside? If so, opt for a sleek and sophisticated gown. Is it outdoors just before sunset? A beautiful sundress with a denim jacket could just be your ticket. Is it in a barn? Dust off the ole’ cowgirl boots and get ready to do some line dancing in your boho-inspired dress.

Fall Fashion For Wedding Guest Fabrics

Brocade

Brocade is woven rayon, cotton, satin, or silk fabric. It has beautifully inlaid patterns made with metallic thread. You can find rich colorful patterns as well as sophisticated subtle tone on tone patterns.

Velvet

Velvet is typically found in rich beautiful tones. You can find it in a variety of weights. For an autumn wedding, you would want to go with a lighter weight. A heavier weight would keep you cozy for a winter ceremony.

Satin

Satin is one of the most popular fabrics for many weddings. The color choice is endless and cost-effective for a variety of budgets.

Fall Fashion for Wedding Guest in September

Septemer may be the trickiest of fall weddings. We are usually “done” with summer and ready for cooler temperatures but mother nature may not agree with us quite yet. September can still give some pretty warm days. So for fall fashion for wedding guest this month let’s look for rich tones but perhaps in a sundress. Accessorize it with a light jacket in case the evening cools down. Pair this duo with some ankle boots and you have a stunning wedding ensemble.

Fall Fashion for Wedding Guest in October

This just happens to be my favorite month – and it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that it’s the very month that I said “I do” to my high school sweetheart. October ushers in sweater weather and brings all new options for our wardrobe! Beautiful burnt orange or cranberry colors scream October to me. Pair either of those colors with a suede bag and shoes for a cozy and elegant look.

Fall Fashion for Wedding Guest in November

November weddings are perfect to pull out the velvet dress and black Patton shoes! You just can’t get any classier. You will definitely want to dress in layers when attending November weddings. Maybe opt for a short sleeved dress with an elegant jacket for when the temperature drops. If velvet isn’t your thing, you may want to consider choosing another heavy fabric that will keep you comfortable as you bid the happy farewell into the sunset.

How to Dress for an Outdoor Wedding

Venue and destination weddings are saved to almost every bride and bride-to-be’s Pinterest boards. Many brides are opting for outdoor ceremonies – which makes for a beautiful backdrop IF the weather cooperates. Bearing this in mind, my advice is this: whether it be an October celebration or a summer paradise in June – dress in layers. Have a jacket for cooler nights or pop-up summer thunderstorms. Make sure your shoes are appropriate for the location – no stilettos for the barnyard ceremony. And last but not least – take an umbrella!

Final Thoughts

While it’s always fun to add to our wardrobes for these special occasions, we can’t lose site of the main thing – we’re celebrating our loved ones. As we don our fall fashion for wedding guest; take a deep breath, enjoy the cider that’s sure to be served, and revel in new beginnings.
